Q. What is Achieve?
A. Achieve is a non-profit, community-based service program dedicated to helping children in pre-school through high school enjoy learning and succeed in school. Achieve offers tutoring services in all subject areas, customized to the child’s age and ability and provided by experienced, certified teachers. In addition, our enrichment workshops allow students to explore fascinating and sometimes out-of-the-ordinary subjects like foreign language, science, fine arts, and much more.
Q. Why did Elmwood Franklin start Achieve?
A. Elmwood Franklin saw an unmet need in the community quality, individualized tutoring and enrichment services provided by educators who understand the social, emotional, and physical development of children. Providing these services supports and enhances the overall educational mission of the school. Achieve opened in 2004 at a location in the Transitown Plaza in Williamsville. Achieve now operates directly from Elmwood Franklin’s north Buffalo campus.
Q. Who can go to Achieve?
A. Achieve is open to students of any schoolprivate, public, or home-school. Services take place during after-school hours and during the summer. There are services and programs designed for children from pre-school to high school age. Achieve serves children of all ages and abilities, whether they need extra guidance in a certain subject area, need to improve overall performance, surpass grade level and are looking for advancement, want to explore specific interests, or want to prepare for an important test.
Q. Is tutoring really effective?
A. Studies show that when compared with untutored students, tutored students score significantly higher on assessment tests and employ more positive attitudes toward the subject matter after being tutored. In addition, Achieve families continuously tell us about the worthwhile experiences and positive results they have with Achieve. Tutoring at Achieve is run by experienced, certified teachers and features flexible curricula specifically tailored to each child’s needs.
Q. What is “enrichment” and why is it important?
A. Achieve uses the term “enrichment” to refer to the kind of learning that reaches beyond classroom academics. Within education, there is an enormous breadth of learning opportunities much more than could be covered in a school day. Enrichment workshops at Achieve allow students to learn beyond the surface to dig deep, discover new facets and explore a specific interest. Subjects range from fine arts, to chess, to science, to foreign language and culture, to technology and beyond. Because sessions run for four to ten weeks, enrichment workshops are the perfect way to allow your child to discover fun, fascinating and sometimes out-of-the-ordinary topics. The atmosphere is personal and comfortable, so children feel free to ask questions, explore interests, and find the fun in learning.
Q. How do I know what’s being offered at Achieve?
